During 2026, the Els Avets Foundation plans to install an accessible elevator in the organization’s main building, located on Calders Street, with the aim of improving accessibility, safety, and autonomy for users, professionals, volunteers, families, and visitors.
This intervention will eliminate existing architectural barriers between floors and ensure universal, comfortable, and safe access to all areas of the center. The building houses essential services of the organization, such as the Occupational Therapy Service, with 24 places, a residential home with capacity for 10 people, and the offices, which entails continuous use of the different spaces.
The project includes the adaptation of the elevator shaft, which is already structurally executed, as well as the preliminary work of emptying and preparing the space. It also foresees the waterproofing of the pit and the installation of a water extraction pump, given the existing humidity problems, to ensure the correct functioning of the equipment and prevent future incidents.
With this intervention, Els Avets aims to reinforce its commitment to the quality of life of people with intellectual disabilities, promoting their personal autonomy and progressively adapting the facilities to current regulations regarding accessibility, safety, and risk prevention.
During 2026, the Els Avets Foundation plans to adapt a sensory room at the Arc de Sant Martí Occupational Therapy Service, which has 24 places, all of which are occupied, and serves people with intellectual disabilities with diverse support needs.
The project is part of the continuous improvement of the service and aims to adapt spaces and resources to the current needs of users, offering more personalized, innovative, and quality care. The sensory room will provide a safe, calm, and adapted environment, specially designed to promote emotional and sensory regulation.
This action will help reduce stress situations, prevent or decrease disruptive behaviors, and promote the emotional well-being, relaxation, and quality of life of users. At the same time, it will strengthen the therapeutic, occupational, and personal and social adjustment activities carried out in the service.
To adapt a sensory room that contributes to the well-being of the people served, promoting their emotional and sensory regulation, their personal autonomy, and their active participation in the daily life of the center.
During 2026, the Els Avets Foundation plans to replace the broken aerothermal system at Els Avets Home with a new, efficient, and sustainable hybrid air conditioning system, with the aim of ensuring thermal comfort and the well-being of residents.
The residential home serves 10 adults with intellectual disabilities in a situation of dependency and offers continuous service 365 days a year, with the support of a professional team and local and international volunteers.
Following the sudden breakdown of the previous aerothermal system, oil heating was installed as an urgent provisional measure. Although this action ensured minimum comfort conditions, it is not a sustainable solution nor aligned with the entity’s energy efficiency criteria.
